Shot peening is a cold working process used to produce a compressive residual stress layer and modify mechanical properties of metals. It entails impacting a surface with shot (round metallic, glass, or ceramic particles) with force sufficient to create plastic deformation. Peen-Rite specializes in shot peening for aviation and automotive applications, meeting AMS 2430 and AMS 2432 specifications.
Common Applications
Wet blasting (also known as vapor blasting or aqua blasting) combines water with abrasive media to create a slurry that gently cleans and finishes surfaces. This process is ideal for delicate components where dry blasting might cause damage. The water acts as a cushion, resulting in a smoother, brighter finish.
Common Applications
Abrasive blasting uses compressed air to propel abrasive media against a surface to clean, smooth, roughen, or shape it. Our abrasive blasting services are used for surface preparation prior to coating, paint removal, rust removal, and general cleaning of metal surfaces.
Common Applications
Ceramic bead blasting uses spherical ceramic media to produce a smooth, bright, and uniform surface finish. The ceramic beads are harder than glass and provide excellent results on stainless steel, titanium, and other hard alloys. This process is commonly used in aerospace and medical device manufacturing.
Common Applications
Plastic media blasting (PMB) uses plastic abrasive particles to strip paint and coatings from surfaces without damaging the underlying substrate. This process is widely used in the aerospace industry for aircraft paint stripping and is approved by major aircraft manufacturers.
Common Applications
Sand blasting is one of the most common surface preparation methods, using silica sand or other abrasive materials propelled at high velocity to clean and prepare metal surfaces. Peen-Rite uses appropriate media and safety protocols to deliver effective results for a wide range of applications.
